Urban Mobility Observatory of Feira de Santana
The Urban Mobility Observatory of Feira de Santana — ObMobFSA is an entity and collective formed by activists, researchers, and citizens dedicated to various issues related to urban mobility. We join forces with other social movements and organizations that promote resistance and present proposals related to all forms of accessibility to public transport, road safety, active mobility, a healthy environment, and a democratic city. We advocate for public policies that improve urban mobility, the right to the city, and policies like fare-free public transit (tarifa zero).
Mission
To produce and disseminate scientific knowledge about urban mobility in Feira de Santana, contributing to fairer, more efficient, and sustainable public policies, with a focus on social inclusion and the quality of life of the population.
Vision
To be a national reference among urban mobility observatories of medium-sized Brazilian cities, recognized for the quality of its data, the relevance of its research, and its impact on the transformation of transport policies.
Our Areas of Action
The pillars guiding the observatory's actions in producing knowledge and social impact.
Research and Monitoring Axis
The role of the "Observatory"
- •Diagnose local reality:Collect, systematize and analyze data on the public transport system, traffic flow and infrastructure of Feira de Santana.
- •Oversee public power:Monitor bus concession contracts, schedule compliance, fleet quality and the municipal budget for mobility.
- •Produce counter-data:Generate independent statistics to oppose or supplement official city hall data, focusing on often-ignored peripheral areas.
- •Map accidents:Track traffic crash indices in the city, identifying critical spots for pedestrians and cyclists.
Policy Advocacy and Proposals Axis
Political action and legislation
- •Defend Fare-Free Transit (Tarifa Zero):Develop feasibility studies and grassroots campaigns for the gradual or total implementation of free public transit in Feira de Santana.
- •Propose legislation:Draft bills promoting active mobility (bike lanes, accessible sidewalks) and dialogue with civil society and public authorities.
- •Occupy decision spaces:Actively participate in municipal councils, public hearings and reviews of the Master Urban Plan (PDDU).
- •Demand universal accessibility:Press for 100% adaptation of the bus fleet and public roads for people with disabilities and reduced mobility.
Mobilization and Education Axis
Engagement and awareness
- •Education for the Right to the City:Conduct workshops, talks and seminars in schools and neighborhood associations on how mobility affects access to health, leisure and work.
- •Community organizing:Connect transport demands from peripheral and rural neighborhoods of Feira de Santana with core movement struggles.
- •Road Safety Campaigns:Promote awareness campaigns about the vulnerability of pedestrians and cyclists against motorized vehicles.
Transversal Axis
Environment and Democracy
- •Promote climate justice:Link the mobility debate to pollutant emission reduction, defending a clean transport fleet and reducing dependency on private cars.
- •Democratize road space:Fight for road space redistribution, prioritizing exclusive bus lanes, cycling paths and sidewalk widening over car parking space.
